I earned my bachelor's degree in Spanish from Pepperdine University, and continued my education in Spanish until I had earned my PhD in it through the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. I have developed a philosophy that a student becomes truly mature when they understand that their perspective, their outlook on life, is one among all the others in the world, and that each person experiences the world in a different way. I have found that studying cultures outside a student's normal experience, and this very much includes language, helps them achieve that maturity. Speaking in a different language forces students to look at the world in a different way, which is a very mind opening experience. When I work with students as a tutor, I work to develop a rapport right away, so I can get to know the ways they best soak up information. This promotes efficient learning. By tutoring students in Spanish and Arabic, I am able to help them connect to a wider world, because the technology we have today allows students with the ability to connect with native speakers of other languages to enhance their success. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, reading, and cooking.
